Cutest Little Cowboy

Mom gave me permission to post this picture.
The cutest little cowboy we've ever seen!
We had a blast at the Beast Feast the other day!
There were tons of outdoor related businesses and booths set up, and it was awesome to see what other local folks had to offer.
It was also GREAT to meet with and chat with hundreds of residents who came out to support the event.
Thank you so much to the Cody Bible Church for putting on such a great event, and thanks for inviting OAR to be a part of it!
We had some x-country skis and boots come into the store today.
Yes.......the season is on the wane, but there is still a lot of cross country skiing to be done before the snow all melts out in the Northfork!
The boots (in excellent condition) - Salomon SR301 and Salomon SN Air
The skis (brand new) - Salomon Jarvinen Control 3 Base 318R
Drop by OAR soon to check them out, and remember that we have 30% off almost all our winter gear throughout the month of March.
We have skis, a great snowboard, winter jackets, snowboard boots, ski boots, hats, gloves, scarfs, goggles, poles, helmets, and more.

All Kinds Of Gear

I guess I've been living under a rock somewhere but I had never seen a candle lantern before one walked in the door about a week ago.
It comes complete with brass candle lantern, replacement candles, instruction booklet and mesh carry case.
A link to some information about this very cool thing:

Just a reminder that our March Madness Winter Gear Sale begins tomorrow.  All winter jackets, skis, ski boots, fleece vests, hats, gloves, ear and neck warmers etc. are 30% off our already low OAR-prices.
Included in our sale are these two great pairs of snowboard boots.  The larger pair are Burton Rangers and the other pair are youth Vision boots.

This very compact and lightweight MSR Pocket Rocket Stove is also for sale.
More information here:

OK.........we admit that the Arctic Comet snow boots are not what we would call high fallutin' top name outdoor gear.  But I bought two pairs of them really cheap a while back, because I know that there are people out there who just want warm feet and don't have a whole lot of money to spend to get them.
These boots are in great shape and have liners, and if you just want to spend a little bit of money, we may have an option for you!

Two pairs of climbing gloves.
We've got a climbing helmet, a couple of pairs of climbing gloves, some webbing, a few harnesses and a few pairs of climbing shoes for sale at OAR

One of the groups that we would like to be able to serve better at OAR are the children and youth of the community.
They outgrow their sports gear in the blink of an eye.
Which means kids are always needing new stuff and parents are always paying for new stuff.
It gets EXPENSIVE!
We have these youth Fox Racing Pants in the store right now and they are in great shape.
We also have a children's bike trailer, a couple of pairs of little (very little) roller blades, a couple of youth ski/snowboard helmets and a couple of pairs of youth skis, bike helmets and a random variety of winter clothing (jackets, vests, boots, gloves, hats, scarfs etc.).
All youth winter gear is also 30% off through the month of March.
If you have young-people gear and clothing that YOUR kids have outgrown, consider consigning it with OAR and giving them new life for another youngster in our community!

A cool postcard that a lady we know in Montana sent to us over the holidays.
She is an avid fisherman and hunter, and caught this on the Bitterroot River.
Great picture!

Working Hard

When we opened OAR in mid-November we knew that very likely foot traffic at the store would be light for a while.  Our focus during these past couple of months has been to get to know people, give folks a chance to find us (because we're a little off the beaten path), and to begin developing a good inventory of outdoor gear and clothing that people will want to buy and use in their outdoor recreation.

Happily we are succeeding in those goals.  In just a short period of time we have pulled together an entire room full of rustic and outdoorsy decorative items that include plaques, statues, pottery, iron ware, wood ware, pictures and so much more.

In our main room we've got gear and clothing related to a wide variety of activities that people love to do when they head outside (including hiking, camping, skiing, road and mountain biking, hunting, photography).  Tomorrow we're heading to someones' home to pick up more gear.  Can't wait to see what she has!

Outdoor Adventures Revived is working hard to become THE destination for your outdoor gear needs.  Let your next adventure begin at OAR!

You Want Gear? I Got Gear!

I was talking to a lady at the store a couple of days ago.  We were discussing how the store was doing and I told her that we had a lot of outdoor clothing, but I wished that we had more gear in the store - actual "stuff".
Immediately her eyes brightened, she smiled at me and said "You want gear?  I got gear!"
She dragged me outside to her SUV, opened up the back hatch and "stuff" started falling out of the back.
Yeah............she had gear!
I spent a couple of hours the next morning cleaning, itemizing and researching before she came back to the store to finalize all the paperwork.
By the time it was all said and done we had:
1. Burton Ranger snowboard boots
2. Vision youth snowboard boots
3. Scott ski/snowboard goggles
4. Grabar vehicle bike rack (holds 3-4 bikes)
5. Novara wind bike trainer
6. Nordica ski boots
7.  Techno youth ski poles
All of this lady's gear is in good to excellent shape and we're pleased to have it at OAR.
These pieces all make a great addition to our current inventory, and we're excited to be able to offer this outdoor gear to the community at prices that are much lower than retail!
Come check it all out!

I drive by these guys every evening on the way home from the store.
Usually they are spread out in the pasture, but the other night I was surprised to see them all congregated together, close to the fence.
Pulling my truck over to the side of the road I grabbed my camera, set my four way flashers, and then quickly walked back to take a picture of them.
Over the past few months we have seen these guys so often, and they're so goofy looking, that my husband and I have actually named them.
The white one sitting in front is Dolly Lama.
The two standing are Lenny and Squiggy.

Helmets And Boots And More

We still have this Rossignol youth ski/snowboard helmet.
It is a beautiful girls helmet that is filled with hearts, flowers and pinkness, and it is in perfect condition.

Last October a friend of ours came out from Alabama.
One of our local friends took the guy out on a packing trip deep in the mountains in the Northfork.
Our southern friend had little experience horse back riding and spent the entire trip terrified of falling off his beautiful horse Buddy .  In his typical redneck Alabama accent our friend spent an hour after returning safely to the house, excitedly talking about the narrow trails, the steep mountains, the fear of rolling down the side of the mountain if Buddy lost his footing.
The guy was on an adrenaline high for the rest of the evening.
He took this picture of Buddy looking out over the mountains while he was sitting on a rock on the side of the trail, eating a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch.
A good, solid pair of Lacrosse insulated boots.
They're tough, rugged and in very good shape.
About a month ago a lady brought a slew of fleece neck warmers and hats in and asked us if we wanted to sell them in the store.
They are all hand made and come in a variety of colors and patterns ranging from hunters orange to camo to happy faces and plaids.
Look great and stay warm with one of these great fleece pieces.
We have a wide selection of great looking womens' technical clothing at OAR.
This includes a great selection of sleeveless tops.
They're great for all your warm weather outdoor activities.
But they are also great for those ladies who choose to take their workouts indoors when the wind blows, the snow flies, and the temperature drops.
If you love your spin and yoga classes, love your indoor track and treadmill workouts, and look forward to daily elliptical workouts through the winter, stop by and see what we've got.
The one-of-a-kind table is still sitting in the store.
Made entirely of reclaimed driftwood, antlers, and rope, and topped with brand new clear Plexiglas, it is a beautiful table.
The guy who made it brought it into OAR a few weeks ago, and has sold similar tables all over the western section of the United States.
We're happy to have it at our store (but would really love to give it a new home!).

Stop by the store soon and see what great gear we have in stock.
Let your next adventure begin at OAR!

Island Of Misfit Gear

After 8 weeks in business, OAR is quickly turning into The Island Of Misfit Gear
We've got everything from gun holsters and bow cases and fishing rods, to base layers and Columbia jackets and sleeping bags.
We've got skis and boots and fleece tops.
In baskets and on stands we've got neck warmers and ear warmers and gloves and hats.
I picked up a Columbia down hunting jacket the other day (reversible - camo and hunters orange, full zip and storm flap).
It is now hanging on a rack beside a Winchester hooded and fleece lined camo hunting jacket, and a Cabelas camo hunting jacket.
And that's only a small sample of what we are beginning to collect.
When I think back on the past couple of weeks, we have sold a variety of gear that included ice skates, antique snow shoes, an elk cook book, a gun rack, a Campmor fleece, and a Columbia winter jacket.
Pictured above are the following:
1.  Pair of Fischer cross country skis
2.  Tsunami sweater
3.  Oxygen Element 580 snowboard (152) - without bindings, has a few scratches but no major dings, and graphics on both sides are still in great shape
4.  Large framed black and white picture

Drop by the store to check us out, and if you have gear just gathering dust in your garage that someone else could make use of, consider consigning it and giving it a new lease on life.
Our winter hours are Wednesday through Saturday 9am-5pm.

Jamie

Me and my very sweet pup Jamie during a hike at Elk Fork Campground a couple of weeks ago.
My dog is 12 1/2 years old and I've had her since she was about five months old when she just showed up on my doorstep out in the country in the middle of winter.
She LOVES to hike trails.
James has hiked extensively in Tennessee, Alaska and Wyoming with me, and although she is beginning to slow down just a bit these days, she is still my very best and favorite hiking buddy!

1.  For anyone who catches this in time, I'm being interviewed on KODI 1400 AM tomorrow morning (8:40am-9am).
A great opportunity to keep getting the word out about OAR!

2.  Thanks so much to the Park County Nordic Ski Association for inviting me to speak at their board meeting on Monday.  It was great to meet these wonderful folks, who are committed to providing quality Nordic ski opportunities for people of all ages in our area.

3.  Thanks to Pizza On The Run for graciously offering to place fliers about OAR on their next 400 pizza boxes!

4.  Finally thanks to the Absaroka Outdoor Fellowship.  I met with one of their folks when she dropped by the store yesterday and spoke with their coordinator last night.  So good to meet and touch base with like-minded, outdoor loving people.

It's very exciting to meet people in Cody who are so welcoming and supportive of our new business.
We appreciate everyone so much and hope that OAR can find ways to continue to partner with these great organizations.
A link to the upcoming Winter Hiking seminar.  It's scheduled for next Wednesday January 16:
If you want to learn how to safely hike during the winter please give us a call to register for this free seminar.

Choosing The Right Snow Skis

A great beginner article on choosing the right skis.  Learn more at Customskis.com: http://www.customskis.com/2011/09/Buying-Snow-Skis.html

How To Choose the Right Snow Skis
Shopping for Snow Skis
Shopping for Skis Can Be Mind Boggling.
Choosing the snow skis for first-time skiers can be intimidating, but with the right guidance and assistance, purchasing one can be easily pulled through. It is very important to note that there are different snow skis for different type of skiers.

Taller and heavier skiers may require different ski as with lighter and shorter ones. Back in the old days, skis can be so large making it difficult to get you the right balance. But nowadays, snow skis are made to fit the person who is going to use them, smaller skis are known to be faster and more stable.

Snow Skis for Different Ages and Gender
If you are a man, then pick snow skis that are made for your gender. This is the basic consideration to think about when buying the skis. Men and women have different ski types to use because of the difference in body built.

Women's skis are built lighter and flexible to compensate for body weight, the same with children who need to get equipment that matches their own height and weight. The height and weight of the skier is the determining factor in getting the right and proper ski length, they need to be proportionate so that everything is well distributed.

Skills And Styles
The type of snow skis also differ depending on what level the skier is, and it is not practical to get one that is beyond or below the skill level you are currently in.

Try to stay away from the thought that you can buy a ski that is beyond your level thinking that you might improve later on.

For beginners, for instance, the ski needs to be at least shorter by an inch or two than the body. Intermediate skiers need a ski that is closer to their height, while those advanced skiers must choose a ski with an added length, from five to ten centimeters.

For the expert skier, you might consider Custom Skis that are manufactured to your exact specifications and the type of skiing you will be performing

Longer skis move faster so that if you need speed, go for the longer one to help you float during skiing. Below is a guide to be used in getting the right skis:

- Skis should be just tall enough to hit the skier's chin or eyes or in between.
- Mountain skis should stand between the nose and forehead.
- Free ride skis should be eye level or a little taller.
- Freestyle skis must be nose level.
- Back country skis are the widest and biggest and the size depends on skiing level
OAR has great quality skis, ski boots, helmets, and ski/snowboard clothing from base layers to jackets, gloves and hats.  We also have a great Main Frame snowboard (with Salomon bindings) for sale.  Check us out!

Buffalo And Helmets

Pictures taken in the Shoshone National Forest in early September, while heading towards Yellowstone National Park.
Winter was still months away, and it was too early for herd animals to be coming down out of the mountains.  We assumed that this solitary throwback to prehistoric times must be either old or injured.  He was neither.  In fact, when we pulled off the highway to watch him for a while we realized that he was perfectly healthy.  No idea why he was alone or out of the mountains, but we have seen him many times since that first encounter.  The picture above is looking west towards Yellowstone.
Looking east back towards Cody...........
A Rossignol youth snowboard/ski helmet filled with pink, hearts and flowers.

Looking For.............

Every time I walk into the other room I find this guy staring at me from a shelf by the window.
He's only one of many whimsical or cute or rustic decorations we currently have for sale, but crazy-eyed Garfield always makes me smile.
One of the really awesome things about running a consignment store is that you never really know what's going to walk in the door.
When we first opened OAR I expected the regular outdoor stuff - tents, packs, boots, jackets.
Some very cool and unexpected things have come in recently:
1.  A CC Filston Company jacket.
Now, until a super nice guy walked in with this baby I had never heard of CC Filston, so had to do some research to figure out what we had.  What we have is a very rugged, very high end, and beautifully made coat.
2.  A few days after OAR opened its doors another super nice guy walked in and asked me if we were interested in a drift wood table.  He apparently makes them and sells them all over the western portion of the United States.
Caught off guard we thought.......uh..........sure, why not?
We had not anticipated taking in drift wood tables but have one room set aside for rustic and rugged decorative "stuff" - pictures, copper candle holders, outdoor books, wood and metal figurines, outdoorsy picture frames, that sort of thing.
Well the driftwood and antler table made it's way through the front door yesterday, it is beautiful and the picture does not do it justice.
We're glad we said "sure, why not"?
Awesome snow shoes that would look great in a cabin or rustic home, or beside a fire place................
We still have this Eberlestock Tactical pack for sale.
More information on this awesome and rugged piece of equipment here:
We've got climbing gear that includes shoes, gloves, harnesses, a helmet, webbing and hardware.
We are not accepting climbing hardware on consignment (this includes everything from Figure 8's to ascenders to carbiners to climbing axes), so once these are gone, they're gone and we will not have any more unless brand new and still with tags.
OAR is definitely accepting other climbing gear on consignment though, such as more shoes, more gloves, more helmets and harnesses, chalk bags, etc.
LOOKING FOR!  LOOKING FOR!  LOOKING FOR!
Someone came into the store the other day looking for a left handed compound or cross bow.
If you have one and want to consign it (and hopefully sell it) please contact us at OAR.
We may already have a buyer!

LOOKING FOR!  LOOKING FOR!  LOOKING FOR!
Outdoor Adventures Revived is looking to include more outdoor gear options into its' inventory.
Since OAR is the only outdoor gear and consignment store in the area, we are actively working to make it THE place to go for high quality, gently used equipment.
We could use more day packs / headlamps (include batteries) / hiking boots / road and trail running shoes (with not too many miles on them) / archery equipment.
We also welcome more clothing - everything from wool and Smart Wool socks to winter gloves to buffs and neck gaiters to fleece tops and winter jackets.
Those are only ideas to get you started but we will accept all kinds of cool outdoor stuff (trekking poles?  back country stoves?  map cases?  firearm holsters?   cold weather sleeping bags?)

Facebook here we come!
Working on an OAR Facebook page over the next few days.
We'll post here when it's up and running.
